Interdisciplinary Initiative

About The Forensic Lawyer

Bridging the critical gap between courtroom legal practice and scientific crime investigation.

The Forensic Lawyer is an interdisciplinary initiative designed to bridge the gap between legal practice and forensic science through the Joint Certificate Course in Forensic Science & Law, co-offered by Kerala Law Academy (KLA) and the Centre for Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science (CCIFS).

The programme aims to equip legal professionals and law students with scientific literacy to understand crime scene investigation, forensic laboratory procedures, evidence evaluation, and expert testimony, while familiarising forensic science enthusiasts and professionals with the legal principles governing criminal investigation and judicial proceedings.

Integrating contemporary legal frameworks, including the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), 2023, the initiative emphasises evidence admissibility, chain-of-custody compliance, forensic report interpretation, and cross-examination of expert witnesses.

Complemented by an academic conference, the programme provides a multidisciplinary platform for legal practitioners, forensic experts, researchers, academicians, and students to exchange knowledge and promote collaboration between science and law.

Key Program Highlights

  • ✓ 60 Hours Hybrid Model: 30 hours live online masterclasses + 5 days intensive hands-on practical residency at Kerala Law Academy campus.

  • ✓ Courtroom Cross-Examination: Mock trial simulations supervised by senior criminal defense advocates and forensic experts.
  • ✓ Joint Certificate: Awarded and signed jointly by Kerala Law Academy and CCIFS Delhi.
